TC Gold Avis AWD Nr. taks US min. age to 18

January 7th, 2009
  • I just reserved my avis rental car for hawaii in September, and this is what I found out: Not only does the TCGM code, booked through the Swiss partner page, give you an excellent rate (full-size 6 days for 300$ incl. LDW and ALI vs. 500$ incl. LDW and ALI on an entertainement book rate) - but it also lowers the minimum age to 18! VERY good to know, what a shame I didn't know earlier!

are you sure that the minimum age is not 21? I know that in a couple of states there is a law preventing rental companies of setting the minimum age above 18. These states include for example New York state. I am not sure if Hawaii has the same laws. I would call the local Avis agency to confirm this. I used to have this type of problem even when renting a car in New York State and dropping it off in Massachusetts. Although I was allowed to rent the car at JFK I was not allowed to return it at another location where the law was not applicable.
Unfortunately it is an insurance problem and you pay a hefty premium when you are below the age of 25 (the final age barrier in the US). Usually Alamo or some other lowly http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif car rental company was the solution.
