ITA syntax to specify AA in C class?
January 7th, 2009
fly from SEA to anywhere on any airline, then AA across the Atlantic in C class, then anyone anywhere to end up in TBS?
I've tried and tried and just can't figure it out.

can't you just put X in lieu of spelling out every European gateway and then some?
to the OP: enjoy TBS, I'm just back from a short trip and it is fantastic

Assuming this is truly a mileage run (is it really??? ), your most sensible move would be to first investigate where you can collect MILEAGE into your desired program, starting with flights to your final destination (TBS) from the AA European gateway. I'm thinking LHR is about the only sensible answer there (crediting miles to AA/BA), but you may be interested in collecting miles in another program as well, so that would open up CDG, etc.
If this is indeed your aim, then that will help make the search syntax simpler. Why don't you tell us the goal of this trip?
X sounds really good. But I haven't figured out how to plug it into ITA yet. My first three tries, after reading the help all didn't do what I had hoped.
My understanding was that by putting that set of European airport codes and having a 300 mile radius would cover virtually every airport in Europe geographically. Since the OP wanted to go from SEA through anywhere in the US and cross the pond to anywhere in Europe on AA and then go on to Tblisi, I used that European set with the stopover syntax.
I just looked up 'X' and didn't realize that it was for 'any single connection point' - learn something new every day. :)

That being said, if there is somewhere that would be better to post, please tell me where to post, and I will submit. I just have no clue.
I could also make up a hypothetical question from a real-world mileage run situation if it would appease. Or, I could go to whatever forum is best for this discussion, and report back in Mileage Run with an example for others. Whatever your preference...
_______________ Goal _______________
I am trying to get upgraded across the water on a trip I have to take anyway. I want to use my AA eVIPs, as so far I can not figure out what value they have better than international flights, and I've got more eVIPs than I need.
Mileage accumulation is a thorn on this trip. The main contenders to TBS are KL, BA, LH, OS, TK, and A9. A9 is borderline unsafe, and does not give miles. TK is fine if you want to route thru IST, though I prefer a western airline. I've been BA Gold, but I buy discount fares, so BA EC and I don't really view loyalty programs the same way right now. I need AA, AS, and US miles for top-tier status right now. If I fly NW, I get AS EQMs, but not on KLM metal anymore, due to a recent change. Mileage accumulation is secondary to upgrade across the water this trip.
So, the only way I can see getting upgraded is on AA or NW. NW flights in the first half of Novemeber (when I want to fly) are already very limited in miles-for-upgrades. They are asking $2700-$8700 PLUS 60,000 or more miles. I am not going there. AA SEA to London, and then BA or KL or OS or LH or TK on to TBS seems to be the only way to get upgraded. I will NOT fly AA unless I can get two confirmed upgrades both ways, as they will cost an additional 5-10 hours in transit each way, and will price out higher. I have used ExpertFlyer to search, so far unfruitfully. I am looking for some easier way to search from 10/29 to 11/16 for outbounds, and about six days later for returns. I figure to do this daily over the next few weeks before I give up and don't get upgraded.
I am even willing to give an eVIP to anyone that helps me get two confirmed trans-ocean upgrades without extending the in-transit time by more than 6 hours. I am fairly frustrated that I can't use my status or status benefits to beat this problem. Just ask more if you have more questions.
ITA: I have fiddled with the ::O:AA+ / f bc=C syntax, and just can NOT ever get it to find ANY flights on ANY days in ANY months on ANY AA route. I must be doing something wrong.
1) If you use ITA successfully to find AA fare classes, PLEASE give me exact syntax that works. I am simply lost. So far, I can't figure out how to use ITA to find C class fares on ORD-LHR nonstops. That is all I need, I think.
2) If you can find a way to get two of us confirmed upgrades across the water with all of my statuses and miles and eVIPs SEA-???-TBS and back for under $2K each, I will also be most appreciative. Lowest Y round-trip in the market is currently about $900.
This reply is far longer than I meant to post, but you asked, and appeared to have legitimate, sincere interest. Thanks.

(this is assuming you're looking to buy a Y ticket and upgrade to J--not a J ticket to upgrade to F; for that, you need to look for D or J)
I would suggest calling or emailing Expertflyer and ask if they have any sort of search tool functionality like you're asking. Or you can call up AA phone reservations and have them do the looking for you. Don't feel guilty as they'll be charging you $8 for the pleasure!

Given that there are no direct flights to TBS from anywhere in North America X in that case equals "any European airport", right?
Thank you SO MUCH for the explanation of why I am coming up empty! I was beginning to be really irksome.
I will email ExpertFlyer. They have been really responsive so far.
The other offer above is still open if anyone wants a shot at it!

A little something about you, the author. Nothing lengthy, just an overview.
